Goals and Objectives

The main objective of the InnOBreed project is to identify specific fruit cultivars and/or selection-evaluation processes that are better suited for organic production cultivars compared to the ones that are currently used, and that meet organic farming requirements, by:

  • Breeding with new organic approaches;
  • Evaluating local genetic resources, (pre-) breeding material and cultivars; and
  • Introducing these varieties through the organic fruit supply chain.

For the project period (2022-2026), the InnOBreed project has the following set of ambitions:

  • To promote an evaluation of Fruit Tree Genetic Resources (FTGR) on organic farming bases.
  • To identify, surround and imbed Innovative Solutions in an impact-based strategy to foster fruit organic breeding.
  • To ensure a participative approach to define new traits and to adapt evaluation methods fitting with future organic fruit growing challenges.
  • To increase the use of the FTGR diversity for increasing breeding efficiency.
  • To stimulate innovation in products and services; in processes and organisation; as well as in marketing.
